Jompet is a visual artist based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He began as a musician, producing records and performing live shows from 1995 to1999 before moving towards the visual arts, where he was heavily influenced by the dynamism of the Yogyakarta arts community. His practice is grounded in culture, history, and traditional practices. However these are ‘processed’ from a contemporary perspective, used as ways of thinking through issues of politics, power, and mass mobilisation.

Jompet also collaborates with Yogyakarta based contemporary theater collective Teater Garasi. Jompet has exhibited locally and international at such prestigious events such as Venice Biennale, Para-Site-Hong Kong, Tokyo Wonder Site-Japan, Moscow Biennale-Russia, ZKM Karlsruhe-Germany, Saatchi Gallery-London, Singapore Art Museum, Musee d’Art Contemporaine-France and Yokahama Triennale-Japan, the Taipei Biennales, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Global Temporary in ZKM Karlsruhe. In 2013, he won the Prins Claus Award with his theatre group Teater Garasi.
